Management Arrangements for Diversifying Rice Irrigation Systems in Malaysia

چکیده
THE RICE LANDS of Malaysia, tolaling 0.6 M ha are broadly classified as either granary or nongranary areas. The granaries comprise 8 large and contiguous irrigation schemes, covering 210,000 ha and producing more than 65 percent of the country's total output; and it is in these granaries that further developine.nt of rice production will bt. concentrated. The nongranaries are either rain-fed or have been provided with irrigation facilities to ensure that they are cropped at least one seasou in an year. Following the review of the rice production policy and concurrent with agriculture diversification strategies, the 11011granaries have been redesignated as diverse crop production areas in contrast 10 the granaries which are monocropped with rice. In line with this decision, a feasibility study 011 crop diversification and rationalization was carried out under theTechnical CooperationPrograin between thegoverninents oflapan and Malaysia (ANON 1990a). The study focused on the nongranary irrigated areas of Malaysia comprising 924scheines, totaling 130,100 ha.

Effect of irrigation interval and nitrogen fertilizer rate on grain yield and yield components of rice (Oryza sativa L.) cv. Hashemi
Irrigation water deficit is an important factor that affect rice production in the world as well as Guilan province in Iran. Intermittent irrigation method can be applied to compensate for the water shortage in rice growing areas, however, it would affect other crop mangement practices such as fertilizer application and mangement. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to determine optimum fe...

Alternate wettting and drying (AWD) systems save water compared with continuoussubmergence (CS) irrigation. However, the reported effect on yield varies widely and detailedcharacterizations of the hydrological conditions of AWD experiments are often lacking so thatgeneralizations are difficult to make. We compared the effects of AWD and CS on crop andwater productivity in rice in the field expe...

In order to calibrate and validate the PILOTE model for rice in a humid climate, this study was carried in a randomized complete block design with three replications on a popular local variety, Hashemi, during 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007 crop seasons. This research was done at the Rice Research Institute of Rasht, Iran. Evaluation of simulated and measured grain yield and dry matter values ...

The analysis of changes in water quality in a monitoring network system is important because the sources of pollution vary in time and space. This study utilized analysis of the water quality index calculation, hierarchical cluster analysis, and mapping. This was achieved by assessing the water quality parameters of the samples collected from Galma River in Zaria, Northwestern Nigeria in wet an...

Italian rice production is progressively threatened by water scarcity. Some strategies have been developed to reduce water use. Nevertheless, reducing water irrigation amounts may lower paddy rice production. This publication compares the productivity and the economic performances of traditional and modern rice varieties in northern Italy using two different water management systems. The object...
